Digital DNA – Building a Better Online

This September we had a FANTASTIC day out attending the bespoke Digital DNA event in the Armagh Observatory and Planetarium.  Digital DNA is an annual business and technology event that has been held in Northern Ireland to help & inspire local companies online.

On a day which included gazing through the stars, a scary virtual rollercoaster ride and free Goujons, it’s hard not to be happy, but Digital DNA really did leave a great impression on all that attended. It created a real opportunity for companies to build relationships, secure clients and of course develop strategic partnerships, by learning from one another.  One company that stood out for us was Total Hockey, a local Hockey Sportswear shop from Banbridge who are taking the online Hockey world by storm, with their professional product photos and eye-catching video marketing ideas.

On the day we enjoyed inspirational lectures from Niall McKeown (Ionology), Alan McMurray (Total Hockey), Rob Elkin (Busuu), Peter Craven (CDE Global), Adrian Lester (Allstate), Catherine Bennett (Twitter) & Pete McAvoy (Google) as well as engaging workshops from Daithi Conlon (Website NI) & Lana Richardson (Engage).

Overall, we had a FANTASTIC Day out at the Digital DNA event. So many Inspiring companies to learn from and engage with. We would recommend Digital DNA to any business looking to better themselves online!

10 Ways to Use Video for Your Social Media Marketing

untitled-1-01

If you aren’t using video in your social media marketing yet, you should be. A third of all online activity is spent watching videos. And with 90% of users saying that they found product videos helpful when making buying decisions, your business needs to be in the social video space.

Here are 10 tips that can help increase engagement, conversion rates, and brand promotion improving both social video and social media marketing success. Do you want to add video to your social media marketing or are you looking for ways to increase views and engagement!

1: The Ideal Video Length

When you are the length of your video a lot depends on what you want to share with your audience. Testing different lengths and measuring performance will give you teh best idea of what works for your business. However, before you start keep in mind the maximum video lengths per social media platform.

• Facebook: 120 minutes

• Twitter recommends keeping videos under 30 seconds

• Instagram: 60 seconds

• Snapchat: 10 seconds

• Vine: 6 seconds

2: Optimise for Autoplay

Autoplay is offered as a feature on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. This encourages user to watch your video. What important is to feature movement within the initial frames to grab attention quickly. Keep in mind that Autoplay can be disabled by users who don’t want data charges!

3: Add Subtitles

Social media offers business a way to connect with potential customers who may not interact with us otherwise. When you add subtitles to your video it lets users watch them even if they are somewhere that can’t play the accompanying sound. It will make your brand more inclusive as it will allow those with hearing impairments to get your message.

4: Grab Attention Early

The first few seconds of your video is where you capture viewers interest. You need to grab the audience’s attention or they will stop watching. This means you must be concise and get right to your point. Think about placing hooks with the first few seconds, before they scroll away!

5: Create How-to Videos

Whether you’re teaching viewers how to apply bronzer or doing an oil change demo, how-to videos are extremely popular across all platforms. Remember how-to videos should teach users something or provide a quickly and simple lesson. These videos are a great opportunity to promote your product without being over-forceful.

6: Optimise for Search

If you’re not optimising for search you need to be! Everything your business posts on social media should be search engine optimised. Think about keywords or phrases that will help user find your content on any social media platform. Hashtags work for Twitter and Instagram users and YouTube allow you to tag your videos.

7: Feature Calls to Action

Have you a clearly stated call to action (CTA)? Do you want user to share your video, purchase your product? CTAs are most effective when placed at the end of your video, even just a line telling views that they can find out more at [insert URL] or sign up to your newsletters”

8: Answer Questions

Has your business got frequently asked questions (FAQ). A great way to add value is to use video to answer viewer’s questions. This allows you to provide content they want to know and it helps establish your business as knowledgeable and credible. The end of these videos is another great way to add a CTA and drive clicks to your site.

9: Attract Attention Without Sound

Did you know 85% of Facebook videos are watched without sound! Think about how you can make your videos visually interesting and don’t rely wholly on words or music.

10: Add your Logo

You aim to promote your brand at every opportunity and videos are no exception. You want to add your logos as videos can be shared and viewers may not realise it is from you! You want to make it easy for viewers to associate the video with you. Think about logo placement – relatively small and unobtrusive in a corner can be best.

And Finally – Measure It All!!!

Engagement, Views, and Clicks – measure it all. Tracking how your video performs across platforms is essential, whether they are paid or organic campaigns. Facebook’s Insights provides video analytics which shows tha number of views your video had. It also measures reach and average view completion rate for each video. Twitter Analytics shows your video views for the past 28 days along with information on views and completion rates for each video. YouTube Analytics offer information on number of views, average view duraction and engagement such as comments or likes/dislikes. Instagram doesn’t currently have an analytics platform, but it’s coming soon. When measuring focus on the number of shares, engagement, and the number of clicks to your site.

Remember clicks can be measured on video ad campaigns on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

But by learning how to collaborate the two methods together, you can create a louder and more powerful and form of advertising. Combining Print Marketing and Digital Marketing can definitely become a winning formula for any company, the key is to combine the two platforms with the right harmony to complement each other.

Below, we have listed 5 different ways on how print marketing and digital marketing are more powerful tools when put together.

1) FLYERS / LEAFLETS

Flyers & Leaflets are one of the cheapest forms of direct marketing. They are a canvas that allows you to communicate, advertise, advise, and connect with customers, companies or fan bases. A colourful and striking flyer / leaflet is always a great way to catch the eye of your audience, but it is also important to have a clear function of what you want the flyer to tell the viewer. All marketing print material should have a strong call-to-action to encourage existing and potential customers to visit your website or social media channels. A good way to link your print to digital is by adding special URLs or even QR codes to the flyer to help promote website conversions.

2) BUSINESS CARDS

High Quality Eye-Catching Business Cards are an essential forefront to any business! So it is important to make an impression that counts. They help to set the tone for your company, not just to make an important first impression to customers, but to create a long lasting one too. Business Cards are a simple marketing method to encourage people to engage further with your company, but it is important to show them that you are human too. People don’t like doing business with companies, they like doing business direct with people, so add at least one social media profile to your card and show potential customers you want to engage with them. Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus or LinkedIn, your business card will provide an excellent opportunity to invite potential customers to connect with you online via social media.

3) POSTCARDS

Postcards are a cheap and simple method of business advertising, the perfect platform for promotional items, notifying clients of upcoming attractions, season greetings, invitations or company announcements. A powerful integrated marketing strategy is to promote your company website or social media channels via direct-mail postcards. Motivate your customers to quickly respond to your postcard with a time-limited discount code which will allow you to easily track the response rate and return on investment. Nowadays, Emailing Marketing has become a fashionable method of marketing as it is quick and direct, but it is becoming more and more popular to skip by company emails without even a glance. Postcards encourage a more physical engagement with your customers which helps to create a better response.

4) STICKERS

DOES YOUR BUSINESS STICK OUT? In today’s market it is becoming more and more important to think of new innovative and eye-catching methods of advertising to grab the attention of potential and existing customers. A great way to do this is through Sticker Marketing. Sticker Marketing is a great way to get your logo, web address or social media channels in front of prospective customer, encouraging them to engage and find out more information about your company. The placement of your stickers is vitally important, think it out and make sure your stickers are being seen by your target audience. Get creative! You can even advertise on the go with Vehicle Graphic Stickers.

5) TESTIMONIALS

Social Media platforms are a very powerful form of Digital Marketing, and they hold a very influential marketing tool – Customer Feedback. Why not take advantage of online customer reviews on Facebook, Twitter, yell or community forums. Encourage people to review your company with discount codes or offers, or even enter them in a competition if they leave a review. Reviews are vital to any company and its important there good; remember 1 bad review is equal to 10 good ones. Once you’ve got reviews, Promote Them! As marketers, we fight an uphill battle against customer trust – displaying genuine reviews and reactions to your product or services within your printed campaign will build trust and encourage sales.
